Kokino Horio (near Plaka)

Kokino Horio is about 200m above sea level and has some of the most stunning views across the sea and mountains. The film 'Zorba the Greek' was partially filmed here in the late 1960s and nearly all the village participated - and if you care to ask, they will gladly inform you about thier participation. One kafenion even remains as a homage to Anthony Quinn and Alexis Zorbas. The village is home to a number of traditional craftsmen as well as the only glass blowing 'green' factory on the island. There is a fine new taverna situated in the old village school and a small secluded bay - suitable for private swimming is close by. Kokino Horio is 4 km drive from Plaka and Almyrida is a further 2km beyond, down a hill. The plot is located a short distance from the village and commands superb views of Souda Bay, the open sea and the White Mountains.
